Barcode Youth Cafe - History
Barcode Youth Café was first opened on October 26th 2005 following a campaign by the Weston-super-Mare Youth Council.
As one of the first and biggest projects of its kind Barcode has been highlighted as a nationally recognised landmark project and has been visited many times by Councils, Youth groups and Local Authorities from all over the UK wishing to setup similar projects. Barcode also receives and benefits from funding provided by the Big Lottery fund. The Youth café works in partnership with the North Somerset Library Service as part of a National scheme initiated by the Reading Agency to better provide and engage young people with the Library Service.
The project is called Head Space and Barcode was one of an initial ten locations that trialled the scheme. Head Space has now been running at Barcode for approaching eighteen months and provides books, internet access and support with resources for projects at Barcode.
For more information on Headspace please see the Services page.
