Musuem to transfer to the Town Council

Weston-super-Mare Town Council agreed at a special meeting on the evening of Monday 18^th October to a proposal to take over ownership and management of the current North Somerset Museum at Burlington Street in the town centre from 2011. As a result of the decision, North Somerset Council will hand over the current Museum building on Burlington Street, along with a contribution of £100,000 towards repair and maintenance of the historic 19^th Century Gas Company building. The stored collections not on display will be transferred to Taunton and managed jointly by a Trust consisting of Somerset County Council, North Somerset Council and the Town Council.

Detail of the transfer is still under discussion between the Councils and further information will be given when available.
