Weston In Bloom

Weston in Bloom, working in conjunction with Weston-super-Mare Town Council, is comprised of a number of volunteers from all walks of life, dedicated to making Weston a beautiful town and making the population proud of the place in which they live. Weston in Bloom started life as Flower Power in 2002, changing its name to Weston in Bloom in 2008, as other areas were beginning to use the term Flower Power.

The Group is financed by sponsorship and a generous grant from the Town Council. Year by year the floral decorations in the town have increased in number, this work has been undertaken entirely by the volunteers. This year has seen an enormous increase in projects including 4 additional planters in Worle High Street, 3 large steel planters at Weston Railway Station, with a further 4 at Big Lamp Corner, 5 large baskets have been positioned on Worle, 2 at Dartmouth Close, 1 at Bideford Road and 2 opposite the Law Courts on Homebase property.

Baskets have also increased with 6 half baskets hung on the railings of the Rose Garden and a further 19 hanging baskets placed around Grove Village with the shops in agreement to the positioning. A wishing well has been placed in Grove Park with the large Wheelbarrow yet to be given a permanent home. The numbers of hanging baskets on lampposts in Worle and Milton have slightly increased. We now look forward to planning next year's floral displays.

We have entered Weston-super-Mare in South West in Bloom, a section of the Britain in Bloom competition, for the past three years having won 2 Silver and a Silver Gilt award. This year we again entered but will not know the result until September. The town was judged on Friday 17th July with the Neighbourhood Awards being judged the Tuesday after; these were mainly some of our local schools. We wish them every success.

We are always looking for new helpers, if you are interested, come and join us. You can contact Rafika at Weston-super-Mare Town Council on 01934 632567 and you'll find a large welcome mat.

All that is left for me to say is an enormous thank you to my team who have worked endlessly on our projects for the benefit of our townspeople.
